Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to our Third Grade Class website! You can think of this as the online version of our classroom. Here you will find all sorts of information about our classroom, as well as tons of resources that we will use everyday in class.
On the left side of this page there are "Tabs," which you can click on for more information on that topic. For example, "Class News" is a Blog about everything that goes on in the classroom. Check back often for updates!

ContactThe best way to contact me during school hours is through e-mail: [email protected]
You may also call 586-784-2655 to reach me directly, however during school hours this number will go to voice mail. If you need to change where your student is going after school, please call the office and they will notify me before the end of the day. PlannerThis year, students will be learning how to keep their education organized with Planners. Planners will come home everyday. Student’s are responsible for copying our work into the planner at the end of the day and highlighting everything they have finished. Anything not highlighted is homework (but if it has an arrow, it is something we will be continuing in class the following day). I ask that parents look over the planner with their child every night and sign or initial the planner.
The following day I will check for signatures and stamp all signed planners, so this is also the perfect place to jot down a quick note for me or your student! Daily FolderStudents will also be bringing home a Daily Folder everyday with their planner. Inside there are two labeled pockets:
Staying organized in school is the road to success. Please make sure Planners and Daily Folders are checked every night. HomeworkHomework: In our classroom, we have three different kinds of homework:
*If a student does return their homework assignment, they will be required to complete the assignment during recess in Study Room. Redoing assignments: Students may redo all assignments, regardless of the grade. The original assignment and redone assignment will be averaged together for the final grade. Extra Practice: If I notice that a student is struggling on a topic, after working with them in class I may send home a short, additional homework assignment. Please supervise these assignments carefully so we can keep our students on the right track! |

Water BottlesLet's save the Earth! I encourage students to have water bottles at their desks, especially reusable bottles. In third grade, we learn about the importance of renewing, reusing, and recycling.
*Make sure your bottle has a securely closing or snap tight top to prevent spills. |
Grades
In our classroom, students will be graded in two ways: letter grades and standards based grades.
Letter Grades
|
Standards Based GradesI keep track of how your student is progressing on a certain skill by using a standards based grading system. For example, in math I have a list of third grade skills your child should have mastered by the end of third grade, including skills like "rounding to the nearest ten" and "multiplication fact fluency."
To evaluate the progress your child is making on each of these skills, I use a 4-point rubric. Your student's level is based on the following:

You can keep track of all your child's grades at PowerSchool, and even set up alerts to let you know when grades are posted or assignments are missing. If you need an extra copy of a worksheet or Home Links, you can often find it right here on our class website.
